Streeter collection of weights and measures, 2900 B.C.-1930 (inclusive).

The collection consists of weights, scales, measures of length, volume, and time, artifacts, books, articles, journals, clippings, photographs, and ephemera relating to mensuration, metrology, and metrological history particularly in the ancient world, Europe and Asia. Material in the collection dates from 2900 B.C. through the early twentieth century, and includes documentation on the history of the collection, on metrological associations, and on other metrological collections. Ancient weights include Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Islamic, Etruscan, and Anglo-Saxon items. Nested cup weights include items manufactured in Nuremberg, Germany, the United States, Spain, the Soviet Union, Italy, France, and Austria. Measures of volume, length, and time include liquid and dry measures, retractable and folding rules, gauges, and sundials.

Edward Clark Streeter was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 10, 1874. He received degrees from Yale University (A.B., 1898) and Northwestern University (M.D., 1901). Streeter studied in Europe and then practiced medicine in Chicago and Boston. He served in France during World War I and joined the faculty of the Harvard Medical School (1921-1933).
